Rotary Partners with Habitat to put solar on Habitat homes
The Lexington Sunrise Club joined in a Rotary district collaborative grant with the Rockingham County and Blacksburg-Christiansburg Rotary clubs for a pilot program that partners with Give Solar and Habitat for Humanity to put solar panels on new Habitat homes. Solar panels have already been placed on three Habitat homes in the valley, one in Lexington. It is a volunteer program that is available to new Habitat homeowner. The Rotary clubs are providing seed money through their grants to help purchase the systems, which will become part of the homeowner’s mortgage when the home closes. The Lexington Sunrise Rotary club was briefed by Sam Crittenburger and Lynne Johnson, from Rockbridge Habitat for Humanity, Jeff Heie, from Give Solar, Grace Crittenburger and Ben Thurman from Lexington Sunrise Rotary Club and Thomas Rea from the Rockingham County Rotary Club.
