District Governor Elect Dick Ray Celebrates with Rotary Club of Lexington Lunch

DG Elect ('17-18) Dick Ray joined the Lexington Lunchers for an After Reverse Raffle Celebration on April 5 in Lexington. The Club's first fundraiser raised $15,000 for local and international charity projects. Event Chair Joanne Robblee extended her sincere thanks to all the club members for making the "Big Deal" benefit a rousing success. She said, "You started out as a member of Rotary and after all your hardwork, you have become a Rotarian. There is a huge difference between the two, and you have made one as far as your contribution to your community." Each club member received a Hershey's candy bar with this sentiment keepsake on the wrapper.

The Club lauded Joanne for her leadership and tireless enthusiasm. Joanne also wrote a poem about next year's RI theme:  "Making a Difference" and read it to the group. She presented District Governor Elect Dick Ray with a framed copy of the poem. Dick presented President Elaine Nelson with the Gold Club award and two first place embroidered patches for Public Relations and Vocational Services from the district conference awards.

Dick spoke about an international partnership between the Bogota Rotary Club in Colombia and our District for the Soacha Community Center.  The project will equip a community peace center, expand a child literacy program, and provide a child nutrition program in several phases.
