  • Brief Description:
The Rotary Club of Front Royal would like to nominate Douglas Stanley for the Douglas A. Newton Excellence in Communication Award. Doug supports the ideals of this award in his personal and professional life and contributes in the following areas:
    - Creates press releases and maintains relationships with local media
    - Coordinates press and photo opportunities with club members, partner projects, and/or awardees
    - Manages our club’s New Member Breakfast Information Sessions. These sessions are a new member’s first detailed look into becoming a Rotarian. Doug keeps the presentation current and not only details what being a Rotarian in our club entails, but the history, projects, and relevance of Rotary globally
    - Coordinates and presents the Fireside Chat for members prior to their induction. This welcome program is a casual gathering and spouses are encouraged to attend and join in the fellowship. This program is attended by all the directors of our club and each discusses their role and opportunities for new members to be involved. These programs are a cornerstone of our club, and so important in communicating the value of Rotary to all participants.
    - Serves as our club historian and maintains a book of Presidents’ Reports that serve as a reference to club accomplishments during their tenure.
    - Assists in maintaining the Club Roles and Responsibilities Manual, which is a vital communication tool for club operations.
    - Doug has served Rotary in many capacities, at the club level and district level. As a past president he has been involved in every element of our club. He has served as a Senior Director on our board, and currently chairs the Public Image Committee, New Member Information Committee, and Social Outing Committee. Doug can be found at Roadside Trash Pick-up, serving meals at Camp Fantastic, emceeing our fundraising events, as a sponsor of our Warren County Middle School Interact Club, and every event in between. Doug has also served on several District Planning Committees in a variety of capacities, including sponsorship and hospitality.
    - Professionally Doug has been involved in Warren County for two decades, now serving as our County Administrator. He has helped shape our community in many ways. What most don't realize is that he is involved in many community activities and organizations outside of his day to day profession. Doug served as president of the Front Royal Rotary Club and is an active member living the motto "Service above Self" daily. He serves as assistant coach for U12 soccer teams, volunteers for many organizations in the community including the Blue Ridge Arts Council, the Chamber of Commerce, and the Warren County Educational Endowment to name a few.
  • Participation of Club Members:
Difficult to quantify, but in my 19 years of Rotary membership I can easily say Doug has provided new membership information to over 200 people. He’s influenced the members of our club in immeasurable ways with his commitment to the ideals of Rotary in his personal and professional life. His family is a Rotary Family every way, his wife Jenny is the faculty sponsor for WCMS Interact Club, and his children Jenna and Whill have grown up and participated fully in our family of Rotary. Doug is well known in Area One, and indeed around District 7570 and has served on many district wide committees. His dedication to sharing Rotary through our local news media has reached many and kept Rotary in the forefront of our community.
  • Resulting Benefits:
Doug’s dedication to Rotary and his efforts to share its purpose, history, stories, and successes with prospective members, and our community at large, is indeed excellence in communication.
