The club will purchase the shoes at a discounted price with the assistance of local SteinMart store (Johnson City SteinMart is managed by Rotarian Cathy Loye, who is our club member). • Describe how the project will benefit the community and/or improve the lives of the less fortunate: This project is designed to impact students’ lives by making their return to school an exciting time. Having a new pair of shoes eliminates social embarrassment associated with old worn out shoes. Also, a new pair of shoes will provide comfort during the upcoming winter season. The Johnson City Evening Rotary Club already supports the JC schools homeless student program by donating foods, snacks and toiletries on a monthly basis.
  • Estimated Total Project Volunteer Hours: 20
  • Describe the Rotarian hands-on activities in the project (i.e. non-financial participation): Several Rotarians will be involved in selecting and purchasing the shoes. A club event will then be organized to package or wrap the shoe boxes with a Rotary logo and a note saying “Compliments of Johnson City Evening Rotary”. We will later deliver the shoes to the Johnson City Schools Homeless Students Coordinator, Ms Bonnie White, for distribution.
  • Describe the publicity plan to inform the general public that this is a Rotary sponsored project: Photos will be taken during all stages of this project.
