• Rotary Year: 2022-2023
  • Application Date: 6/17/2022
  • Club Name: Waynesboro
  • Project Name: RAM Fishersville (Remote Area Medical Clinic)
  • Project Total Expenditures: $2,000.00
  • Grant Amount Requested: $1,000.00
  • Describe the Project, its location and its objectives: Remote Area Medical (RAM) plans to host a pop-up clinic in Fishersville and the Central Virginia Region on November 19-20th to provide much needed dental, vision, and medical care at no cost to our community. Remote Area Medical (RAM) ® is a major nonprofit provider of free pop-up clinics. Their mission is to prevent pain and alleviate suffering by providing free, quality healthcare to those in need. They do this via their pop-up clinic program that is free and open to the public. RAM is coming to Fishersville to provide services and will utilize an estimated 200 volunteers per day to treat an estimated 400-600 patients. The Waynesboro Rotary Club will be the lead organizer of the set up (17 man hrs) and break down (40 man hrs) volunteers engaging all Area 4 Rotary and Interact clubs for volunteer hands on labor. Additionally, the Waynesboro Rotary Club will donate $1,000 and is asking District 7570 to match with $1,000 to provide meals and supplies for the volunteers and patients during the 2 day clinic.
  • This is the Club’s: Primary Project Application
  • Expected Start Date: 11/18/2022
  • Expected End Date: 11/20/2022
  • Expected Number of Beneficiaries: 600
  • Describe how the project will benefit the community and/or improve the lives of the less fortunate: For 27 years, Augusta County supported an area Free Clinic which was closed on July 1, 2020, as a result of the Medicaid Expansion act. During that 27 year period the clinic treated over 10,000 patients. Although Medicaid expansion allowed many of the traditional patients to receive regular care, the closing of the Free Clinic left many without access to affordable medical, dental and eye care. RAM has analyzed the need in the Augusta, Highland and Bath County areas and expect to treat 400-600 patients from the 3 county region during their 2 day clinic. Those patients who are expected to seek care during the 2 day clinic fall into the ALICE category (Asset limited, Income Constrained, Employed) or are over 65 years old. RAM Fishersville seeks to fill in this gap to provide primarily dental and optical medical services to this demographic.
  • Estimated Total Project Volunteer Hours: 57
  • Describe the Rotarian hands-on activities in the project (i.e. non-financial participation): Rotarians will provide a total of 17 hours of hands-on labor to set up the clinic on the day before (11/18) the first day of the clinic (11/19) and 40 hours of hands-on labor to breakdown the clinic on the last day (11/20). Additionally, in the lead up to the clinic, members of the Waynesboro Rotary Club who are Doctors, Dentists, opticians will devote approximately 20 hours to reach out to their medical contacts to organize medical volunteers to deliver medical services during the clinic.
  • Describe the publicity plan to inform the general public that this is a Rotary sponsored project: In addition to the publicity efforts that RAM will be producing to reach out to the community at large publicizing the clinic services and hours in the 3 country area, the Waynesboro Rotary Club will engage our local media (newspaper and television news) to report on the clinic. Further, the Waynesboro Rotary Club will post updates and day of the event pieces through our Facebook public facing and club facing groups. During the set up and break down, we will erect our club’s “Rotary at Work” sandwich board.
