- Rotary Year: 2022-2023
- Application Date: 6/23/2022
- Club Name: Front Royal
- Project Name: Project Fresh Start
- Project Total Expenditures: $3,300.00
- Grant Amount Requested: $1,650.00
- Describe the Project, its location and its objectives: After reviewing and assessing the needs that the Thermal Shelter will have in the upcoming year, laundry support became evident. As the shelter is moving from its previous location, laundry support is in high demand.
The Front Royal Rotary Club, Warren County Department of Social Services and Warren County Public Schools will partner to provide transportation, funding and laundry supplies for Thermal Shelter residents. Twice a week a van will transport residents to “Spot On” laundry in Front Royal with loaded laundry cards and products for residents to have an opportunity to do their laundry. This activity will be available while the Thermal Shelter is operating from December 2022 to April 2023. This service will not only provide clean clothes and blankets but also allow residents to do laundry themselves and bolster self-esteem and improve outward and inward perspectives. This promotion of self-reliance is key in supporting the most fragile residents in our community. In summary, the project’s objectives are as follows: 1. Provide an opportunity for clean laundry for Thermal Shelter residents 2. Promote self-reliance activities for residents 3. Bolster self-esteem and self-worth in our community’s most fragile population - This is the Club’s: Primary Project Application
- Expected Start Date: 12/1/2022
- Expected End Date: 4/1/2023
- Expected Number of Beneficiaries: 50
- Describe how the project will benefit the community and/or improve the lives of the less fortunate: As described in the project description, providing an opportunity for people experiencing homelessness to complete basic self-care tasks such as laundry is critical to a person’s basic needs, as well as, their emotional ones. This project, as small a scope as it is, will have a powerful impact in our community.
- Estimated Total Project Volunteer Hours: 30
- Describe the Rotarian hands-on activities in the project (i.e. non-financial participation): Rotarians will have the opportunity to shop and purchase laundry supplies, as well as, accompany Department of Social Services staff in the van while transporting residents to the laundry. As Department of Social Services employees will be transporting residents it is essential that multiple people be present during transport. This will give Rotarians an opportunity to participate in the project.
- Describe the publicity plan to inform the general public that this is a Rotary sponsored project: This is a delicate area of the implementation of this project, as the self-worth and self-esteem of the clients is paramount. The plan is to use the Rotary Club’s newsletter and Facebook page to promote the program, and of course, the Rotary Wheel is ever-present.
