- Polio mainly affects children under the age of 5.
- There is no cure for polio but it is preventable with a vaccine.
- Only 2 countries have endemic polio, Afghanistan and Pakistan.
- Cases have reduced by 99.9% since 1988
- Until Polio is eradicated every child is at risk.
Rotary members have contributed more than $2.1 billion and countless volunteer hours to protect nearly 3 billion children in 122 countries from this paralyzing disease. Rotary’s advocacy efforts have played a role in decisions by governments to contribute more than $10 billion to the effort. Rotary also has public and private partnerships to End Polio Now. One of these is the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation Partnership, a 2 for 1 match, so every $1.00 raised by Rotary is matched by $2.00 from the Foundation.
