  • It’s October and as the weather begins to cool down and eases into winter many are in need of warm coats and clothing.  Rotary clubs can serve their communities in many ways.  One of these may be to provide coats, shoes, gloves, and hats to deserving citizens who may not have access to new coats.   Some clubs partner with other organizations to provide coats, etc.  One of these organizations is Operation Warm.   Operation Warm is a Rotary Action Group that provides low-cost coats and shoes to clubs for purchase.    Clubs usually work through local social services organizations, food banks, etc., to identify those in need.     Funds are raised in many ways, from holding fundraisers to placing donation jars in local businesses for the purpose of purchasing coats, hats, gloves, etc.  Club projects can have a profound impact in their community.

More information can be found at rotary.org about Rotary Action Groups.  Rotary Action Groups are independent, Rotary-affiliated groups made up of people from around the world who are experts in a particular field, such as economic development, peace, addiction prevention, the environment, or water. Action groups offer their technical expertise and support to help clubs plan and implement projects to increase our impact, one of Rotary's strategic priorities. This support includes helping clubs find partners, funding, and other resources.

Operation Warm provides warmth, confidence, and hope through basic need programs that connect underserved children to community resources they need to thrive."

Operation Warm’s mission has always been focused on the whole child.  Our tagline, "more than a coat" means that the coats and shoes we provide don’t just provide physical warmth, but also emotional warmth, the confidence to socialize and succeed, and hope of a brighter future.  We’re proud to say that over the last 23 years, these gifts have become a bridge between our partners and families in need to access critical resources.
