- Describe the Project, its location and its objectives: Contribute 150 backpacks with school supplies to the students going back to school in our area. Each backpack to be filled with school supplies including pencils, crayons, colored pencils, composition book, ruled note paper, pink erasers and glue sticks. The total cost of the supplies is estimated to be $7 and the backpack itself will cost approximately $7 for a total of $14. The members of our club will participate in purchasing the backpacks and supplies as well as packing the supplies into the backpacks.

- Describe how the project will benefit the community and/or improve the lives of the less fortunate: This Rotary project will impact 150 students while the overall project is designed to help as many as 1,000 local children have a great return to school in the 2017-2018 school year. The backpack project is being coordinated by Ms. Bonnie White, the JC Schools Homeless Education Coordinator who is hoping to receive donations and assistance to purchase 1,000 backpacks. The Evening Rotary Club of Johnson City, TN already supports the Johnson City Schools homeless student program through monthly donations of easy-open food and snack items to the JC Schools homeless student food pantry. This new club project and associated district grant is designed to impact 150 students directly by making the return to school an exciting time for them, while eliminating the embarrassment of not having the proper school supplies.

- Describe the Rotarian hands-on activities in the project (i.e. non-financial participation): The Johnson City Evening Club Rotarians will assist in the purchase of the supplies. 3 Rotarians 3 hours. Rotarians will also be involved in packing the backpacks 7 Rotarians 3 hours.
- Describe the publicity plan to inform the general public that this is a Rotary sponsored project: All aspects of the project will be photographed. Photos and description will be put on the club’s Facebook page and in the local newspapers (two club members work for local newspapers!)
