  • Describe the Project, its location and its objectives: The Patrick Henry Community College (PHCC) located at 645 Patriot Ave in Martinsville, VA has a food pantry that has food and hygiene products available for students who have needs not met elsewhere. Our club will purchase and replenish these items as they are used. The objective is to assist the College with the fulfillment of this meaningful program of assisting needy students.

  • Describe how the project will benefit the community and/or improve the lives of the less fortunate: This will improve the lives of the less fortunate students who sometimes do not receive enough nourishment and perhaps do not have or cannot afford to purchase some of the necessary items for proper hygiene. This will allow students to feel better about themselves with proper hygiene and be able to concentrate more on their studies without having to worry about how to pay for food and hygiene items necessary for their well being. The community will benefit by having students attend College and be able to live and work in the community after graduation. Hopefully they would also learn about giving to others and be able to give back to the community in some way themselves.

  • Describe the Rotarian hands-on activities in the project (i.e. non-financial participation): The club members will check the supplies on a regular basis. They will then purchase the items necessary to refill the shelves of the food pantry and deliver them to PHCC. The club treasurer will be involved to reimburse the members who purchase the items and keep track of expenditures. The club will be given a report at least monthly on the project.
  • Describe the publicity plan to inform the general public that this is a Rotary sponsored project: The local newspaper (Martinsville Bulletin) will be notified of the project our club is doing to assist the PHCC food pantry program and will also use social media such as Facebook, etc. to tell others of the work done by the Rotary Club of Henry County.
