SML Club holds successful Nite at the Races
The Rotary Club of Smith Mountain Lake held its 10th Annual Nite at the Races on Sat., Oct. 20 at the W. E. Skelton 4-H Conference Center in Wirtz. Dozens of members and their families enjoyed video horse racing, dinner, drawings and a ladies' hat parade contest. The annual event typically nets $10,000-$15,000 to support Rotary's charitable projects in the community. DG George Karnes and his lovely wife, Leanette joined in the festivities this year.

It's time to register students for Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) Seminar. Rotary Clubs in District 7570 are encouraged to nominate at least one male and one female junior or senior from each of their local high schools.

Martinsville UpTown Rotarian to lead GSE team to Taiwan
Beverly Pitzer is a Rotarian from the Martinsville UpTown Rotary Club in Area 7570 and serves on the communication committee and the membership committee. In March of 2019, she is embarking on an adventure, leading a Group Study Exchange (GSE) team from District 7570 to District 3510 in Taiwan.

Danville Riverview Rotary to host Ducks on the Dan Sept. 22
The Danville Riverview Rotary Club will host is annual Ducks on the Dan race on September 22, 2018 at 10 a.m. The race is from the MLK Bridge to the Crossing at the Dan Pedestrian Bridge. Tickets are 1 for $5 or 5 for $20 and proceeds benefit The Danville Art Trail, Dictionaries for 3rd graders, and Riverview Rotary International endeavors.    Prizes are 1st place, $500, 2nd place, $300, and 3rd place, $200.    Get your tickets from Danville Riverview Rotary members or online here.

Public Image committee encourages clubs to post news to social media
GOLD CLUB requirements changed this year. For Rotary 7570 clubs to be recognized as a Gold Club, a club must have an active social media page such as Facebook that they post to at least once a month (among other requirements). Clubs are no longer required to submit information to the Informer. The Public Image committee encourages clubs to post news and other items to their social media pages to help spread the news of best practices and great projects and programs.  
Valley Students Awarded Scholarships
Valley Students Awarded Scholarships The Rotary Club of Woodstock has presented $15,000 in college scholarships this past year to local students. The announcement was recently made by Jeremy Cleary, Scholarship Committee Chairman. At Central High School, $1,000 scholarships were awarded to Kelly Bullock, Jacqueline Connell, Bailey Gale, Alina Jaffri, Thomas Lam, Sarah Grace Schechtel and Hayley Wisman. Bedford Rotarian plants 100 trees with Canadian club while vacationing Dr. Jeffrey Kornblum and his wife, Dianna, traveled this summer to Newfoundland in Canada where they joined with the St. John's Rotary Club to plant 100 trees in Kenny Park.
