Rotary Club of Christiansburg-Blacksburg Professional Leadership Award

The Rotary Club of Christiansburg-Blacksburg awarded their 2020 Professional Leadership Award to Christiansburg Police Department Investigator Maureen “Moe” McClanahan on December 14th. The Professional Leadership Award recognizes individuals who have gone beyond the boundaries of conventional professional success by demonstrating exceptional leadership in the development and implementation of programs beneficial to the community.  (more....)
Botetourt County Rotary Club Conducts 2020 Fall Raffle



The Botetourt County Rotary Club held its 2020 Fall Raffle on November 17th.  In spite of the pandemic, the club was successful in gathering 53 prize donations from local businesses and individuals, and more than 300 tickets were sold.   A total of $3,070 was raised with this year’s raffle, and realized funds will be used to benefit a variety of charitable organizations.  (more....)

Thanks to Rick Furr, our District Information Technology Chairman, you may now go under WHO WE ARE and open the tab DISTRICT HISTORY and watch interviews with Past District Governors and others Rotarians.  This has been a work in progress of your District History Committee for  several years.  It is not complete but we will continue to add to this dream.  I hope you will enjoy these interviews as much as we have enjoyed making it available.

New Market Rotary Club Guest Speaker Series
Mr. Cory Davies, the Executive Director of the RMH Foundation was the guest speaker at our August 12 luncheon meeting. He discussed the impact of COVID-19 on health care in the Shenandoah Valley.
5th Annual Krobath /Brownfield Benefit Golf Tournament
Mr. Jim Douglas addresses the Club on the logistics and execution of the 15th Annual Krobath /Brownfield Benefit Golf Tournament which was  held on Wednesday September 9th. Despite the impact of COVID-19, Jim has spearheaded the effort this year to hold both a safe and fun tournament and we anticipate the participation of over twenty teams. This tournament raises money primarily to help cancer patients and local scholarships.
Citizen of Year Awarded to Rotarian Denise (Dee) Phlegar King of Salem Rotary Club
Given each year by the Salem Rotary Club, the Roy W. Hendrickson Outstanding Citizen of the Year Award was bestowed to Rotarian Denise “Dee” Phlegar King of Salem at the Salem Civic Center during the Club’s weekly meeting on Thursday, September 3, 2020 at the Salem Civic Center by Brothers Mark and Paul Hendrickson.  
 
Rotarian Edward W. Lautenschalger imparted to the audience: “Dee epitomizes the two Rotary commandments: ‘Service above Self’ and the altruistic duty to do good in the world. Humbled and honored by this award Dee continues to find ways she can serve Rotary and her community and our world.

Bedford Rotary Club presents a Service Above Self award to Centra Bedford employee
Donald Moore, Centra Bedford Memorial Hospital’s Manager of Environmental Services, was recognized recently by the Bedford Rotary Club, for his service above self ideals.  When COVID-19 began impacting the area, each hospital in the Centra system set up an Incident Command Structure (HICS) to prepare for positive cases.
