Botetourt Rotary Clubs Presents $5000

In late December, the Botetourt County Rotary Club presented a $5,000 check to the Addy Grace Foundation. As reference, Addy Grace Garner (bottom center of picture) was born with Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA), a disease for which there is no treatment or cure. It is a degenerative genetic disease affecting the part of the nervous system that controls voluntary muscle movement, eventually hindering the ability to walk, stand, eat, speak, breathe and swallow. James Garner (third from right), one of the founders of the Addy Grace Foundation and Addy Grace’s father, along with his wife Jennifer, helped create the Addy Grace Foundation. The Foundation’s mission is to build an “all-inclusive” playground (with a price tag of $750,000) next to the new YMCA in Daleville, Virginia. For its service project for 2018, the Botetourt County Rotary Club set a goal to raise $5,000 toward this initiative. A total of 8 fundraising events were held during the year, and the club is proud to report that we achieved our goal.
