Spotlight on a Club
Clarke County
Rieman Royston

The Rotary Club of Clarke County, Virginia was chartered on 10 October 1998, some nine months after the first organizational meeting at the Battletown Inn. The Charter was presented by District Govenor Ron Ferrill. The extension of Rotary into Clarke County was under the inspiration and leadership of Joseph R. Kerr, a member of the sponsoring Stephens City Rotary Club, and a President of the Stafford, Virginia Rotary Club. Later, he was assisted by Past District Governor Kemp Denning and the District Govenor representative Ron Napier, a member of the Front Royal Rotary Club.
The club met at noon, every Wednesday at the Battletown Inn in Berryville before moving to the Episcopal Church in Boyce. The club again returned to Berryville where it met in the Fellowship Hall of Grace Episcopal Church. As of April 2013, the club moved to Berryville Presbyterian Church, where meetings are currently held. We currently have 29 members. This fall we had 15 members move to the next level of Paul Harris. Our club is 100% Paul Harris.
Joseph Kerr served as the Club President for the first two years. He was succeeded by Charles Schutte, Jr., Clyde Lamond III, Brian Jenny, Tom Leahy, Michael Hobert, Brad Snowden, Steve Brown, Jim Wink, Ken Rivett, Dale Coumes, Marie Murphy and Chris Rosen. Cynthia Leahy is the current Club President.
Club major programs and projects include two scholarships each year to Clarke County High School Students, an International Water and Sanitation Project in Bangladesh, library summer reading program, the FISH Food Pantry, the Clarke County Parks and Recreation Shelter Project, numerous charitable organizations, and The Rotary Foundation of Rotary International.
The Club's fundraising activities include: a shrimp and catfish dinner, a spring picnic in the park, and other fundraising projects.
“What a delightful club to work with. You can see why they change the lives of folks in their community every day.” DG Chris Runion
