Spotlight on a Club: Forest

Spotlight on a Club
Jeremy Mezzano

Rotary Club of Forest, Virginia was chartered in February 2003. Past District Governor Rae Carpenter and Past Assistant Governor Case Pieterman are our Club’s Founding Fathers. Our Club meets at Bulls Steakhouse in Forest, Virginia on the first and third Wednesdays at 11:45 a.m. We currently have 28 members and will be inducting a new member in January to soon have 29 Forest Rotarians. Rotary Club of Forest enjoys serving others in our local community and around the world.
The Forest Rotary Club is growing fast and staying active!
We recently partnered with the Society of Saint Andrew for a Gleaning Project to distribute 40,000 pounds of sweet potatoes for delivery to local hunger relief agencies including the Lynchburg Salvation Army, the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank, and the Daily Bread food pantry. This involved a total donation of $4,000 and the hard effort of our members to bag 120,000 servings of sweet potatoes!
Our regular meetings are held at Bulls Steakhouse for lunch on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of each month. Our monthly after-hours social is on the 2nd Monday of each month. Recently, our Forest Rotary Christmas Party was held on December 13th and our Annual Christmas Trivia Meeting took the place of our December 21st meeting.
Our club delivers baked goods donated from the Food Lion on Memorial Ave to the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank every Monday and Wednesday. For our 2016 Thanksgiving project, we put together enough items to feed four families who were in need. Also in November, we volunteered at the Design House to support the mission of the YWCA - empowering women and eliminating racism.
The Forest Rotary Club is serious about serving humanity and having a great time doing it!
