Rotary Club of Tazewell--"Pitching Pennies for Polio Prevention" July 26, 2014

The Rotary Club of Tazewell sponsored a “Pitching Pennies for Polio Prevention” booth at the Summerfest celebration on July 26, 2014. This booth had dual purpose: to raise awareness of the polio prevention efforts of the Rotary; and, to raise funds to help eradicate polio. During the day, the equivalent of 8,000 pennies were donated to the cause. The first 500 were donated by District Governor Vivian Crymble. All ages participated and many related personal experiences about living in the era when polio was nearly epidemic in our area. Blue and yellow helium balloons were given to children and End Polio Now brochures and What’s Rotary cards were available for others. This is our first year for this booth but we are brainstorming on how we can improve on it for future booths. Elene Combs, President Tazewell Rotary Club
