District Governor’s Project: The C.A.R.T. Fund



The club presidents in Rotary District 7570 voted to adopt C.A.R.T. as the District Governor’s project for Rotary year 2012-2013.
Rotarians in North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee, some areas of Texas and Kentucky and now Virginia and NE Tennessee are the sponsors of The CART Fund (Coins for Alzheimer’s Research Trust) dedicated to raising funds to provide the “seed” money for cutting edge, high impact research in hopes of finding a cure/prevention for Alzheimer’s disease.

Rotarians are encouraged to voluntarily empty their pockets of change, or to contribute whatever amount they are able whenever they attend their Rotary meetings. As of May 2012, 20 grants have been made totaling $4,100,000.00. A CART Fund Board of Directors made up of representatives from the sponsoring Rotary Districts, where both the District Governor-nominee AND the District CART Chair have a vote, provides the leadership for the organization. An Executive Director runs the day-to-day operations of the CART Fund, and is paid on a part-time basis from interest earned on contributions to the fund. CART Fund by-laws require that 100% of all donated funds must go to Alzheimer’s Research. More information of C.A.R.T. and the grants we support can be found at http://www.cartfund.org

How does it work in District 7570:
  • Each club in District 7570 will receive C.A.R.T. buckets to be displayed on tables each week or as the club designates.
  • Coins for the CART program will be collected with the club treasurer depositing the collections into their club account.
  • The AG of each area will ask for a volunteer, or appoint a CART treasurer to collect the funds from clubs in that area to be deposited quarterly.
  • Deposit slips for the CART account will be given to the treasurer for direct deposits.
  • The treasurer from each area will send a report to the District CART chair after the deposit is made. This report form will be provided and can be submitted by e-mail.
  • The manner in which each club participates will be left to the club.
