Lexington Sunrise Rotary celebrates 17th Charter Night

The Lexington Sunrise Rotary Club (LSRC) met at the George C. Marshal Museum to celebrate the 17th anniversary of the founding of their club.  The highlight of the evening was the honoring of four individuals for their work in support of the LSRC and our community.  The honorees were named Paul Harris Fellows.

This award, named for Paul Harris, the founder of Rotary International, is one of the most esteemed awards in the hierarchy of personal Rotary awards.  It is awarded to individuals who are Rotarians or non-members who best exemplify the Rotary motto, “Service above Self”.  The honored individuals included Willy Nelson, Kroger Employee, for his volunteerism with several community organizations and specifically with the LSRC’s  4th of July Hot Air Balloon Rally;  Carole Stull, of Lexington Jewelers, for coordinating Eleanore’s Market during the Hot Air Balloon Rally and helping our Rotary Club make Christmas magic for individuals less fortunate than ourselves;  Jim Cook, VMI, AROTC Professor,  for his efforts during the 4th of July Hot Air Balloon Rally at the Kid’s activities tent, his efforts in organizing a new Rotaract Service Club at VMI/W&L,  and his dedication to helping a small village in Guatemala;  and lastly, Dan Vance, Edward Jones Investments, for his tireless efforts in helping to create, The Community Foundation for Rockbridge, Bath and Alleghany, a Not-for-profit 501c3 Organization working to improve the quality of  life in the Foundation’s service area by building permanent endowments and providing philanthropic leadership that enables donors to make lasting investments in the community.

Also on the agenda for the evening was the approval of the slate of Officers for the year 2012.  Elaine Nelson of Scott and String Fellow, President Nominee; Jeff Grossman, Director of Club Services, and Katy Datz, Marketing Director Rockbridge area Free Clinic will start their duties in July 2012.  Continuing  on the Board are Reed Belden, Secretary; Ann Conklin, Club Treasure; David Dugan of Wells Fargo Investments, Foundation Treasure; Bill Luton, Director Community Services; and James Cook, Director of New Generations.
