  • Describe the Project, its location and its objectives: Area 2 Rotary Clubs have participated in an Area wide meal packing event for Stop Hunger Now for the last 5 years. We have included Interact, Boy Scouts, Church groups in addition to family members, but the leadership has been our Rotary Clubs. This year the program will be led by the INTERACTORS, with them including FFA, Boy Scouts and Rotarians. INTERACTORS from Area 2 will coordinate and provide the leadership to arrange for additional funding, providing the work force, and arrangements with Stop Hunger Now to provide the materials. The packing event will be held in Woodstock. Rotarians will act as guides and mentors for the Interactors as they organize this project, the funds from this grant will be the ‘seed’ money.

  • Describe how the project will benefit the community and/or improve the lives of the less fortunate: Stop Hunger Now has provided over 180 million meals in 65 countries. We have packed over 135,000 in Area 2. The 25,920 meals packed this past Spring went to the Dominican Republic. Meals are distributed in developing countries that promote education, encourage children to attend school, improve students nutrition and health, and are part of the movement to address global hunger. On a local community level the project will help develop leadership skills of Interactors, it will promote the working together of other service organizations ie. FFA and Boy Scouts with a common goal.
  • Expected Total Project Volunteer Hours: 375
  • Describe the Rotarian hands-on activities in the project (i.e. non-financial participation): Each Interact Club will hold fund raisers prior to the packing event. The packing event will take place in the Spring of 2016. It will take 5 hours and need 75 volunteers. They will unload the materials, sort and arrange the work stations, and then position the workers at the stations. The meals after packing will be packed on pallets and loaded on the truck to be returned to the warehouse until shippment.
  • Describe the publicity plan to inform the general public that this is a Rotary sponsored project: Each Interact Club will hold fund raisers for the Stop Hunger Now packing event. These will provide an opportunity to highlight Rotary and the focus on Hunger. We will use every opportunity to display the Rotary Wheel in ads, and in social media. Articles about the packing event highlighting all of the various group participating will be sent to the media.
