  • Brief Description:
Project Truth House: The Cross Roads Truth Steps Program was developed in 2008 to facilitate re-entry of adult female ex-offenders and other identified at-risk women; to support the participants in compliance with probation, parole and community service. It is also there to assist participants with obtaining or reinstating social security cards, driver’s licenses and securing community service in the payment of financial responsibilities. Another program goal is to reunite women with their children and restore family relationships and to bring each woman into the productive, healthy and Godly life.

Cross Roads received a donation of three dilapidated homes in Danville for the sole use of creating Life Recovery Refuges or Truth Houses. The Truth House was designed for collaborating Rotarians to complete the renovation of Truth House #1 to provide shelter, food, and educational programming for females coming out of incarceration.

Renovations completed by the Rotary Clubs included: finish roof repair, insulation, install and finish drywall, paint interior, finish electrical wiring (including ceiling fans and lighting), refinish hardwood floors and add vinyl flooring in kitchen, dining room and bathrooms, install kitchen cabinets and countertops, install bathroom fixtures, build a 6x12’ rear deck, installation of a handicap ramp on the front of the house, install siding and gutters, landscaping, purchase and install kitchen appliances. Work began on the Truth House in August 2014 and should be completed March 2015.

Project Rotary Business After Hours: Our second Multi Club project was to hold a Business After Hours through the Danville Pittsylvania County Chamber of Commerce on September 25, 2014. Again, the Rotary clubs of Chatham, Danville After Hours, Danville Riverview and Danville Rotary joined together to plan an event that would be open to Rotarians and their guests and Chamber members and their guests.

This event was held in Downtown Danville in the heart of Main Street Plaza. All of the planning and execution was completed by our clubs. According to the Danville Pittsylvania County Chamber of Commerce, we had 237 people attend our Rotary Business After Hours event.

  • Resulting Benefits:
Project Truth House: Rotary supports helping our communities and the special needs of our people within those communities. Providing a Truth House home will provide shelter, food and educational programming for women coming out of incarceration. The Truth House will continue to decrease the rate of women in Danville and Pittsylvania County from reoffending by providing a safe, supportive, structured home for women re-entering the community.

The Truth House has a waiting list of eager women wanting the opportunity to reclaim their lives in a positive environment. This supervised and therapeutic environment offers them hope and a defined structure to ease back into the community without the fear of having to go back to the lifestyle they had previously just to prevent being homeless and helpless. The Truth House can touch many lives in the years to come. These women and their families will be the beneficiaries of this project.

Project Rotary After Hours: The benefits of having this event was one of education, recruitment and rapport. During PETS some of the members came up with this idea as a method to educate others on what the Rotary organization is all about. Maybe if we plant the seed, we may even encourage interest to attend a meeting or become a Rotarian. The beneficiaries were all attendees. I think everyone enjoyed the evening and learned about a great organization which is doing some good work abroad and in their community.

  • Additional Materail or Information #2:
The document that I have included shows in the first picture a large group of people which gave us a great turnout of more than 230 people at our Rotary Business After Hours. It was perfect that we were able to block off the street and enjoy the downtown area for our fellowship.

The second picture in the document shows one of the tables that was set up by one of our groups. This picture happens to be Danville After Hours. You can tell that it's manned by several Rotarians and they have information to share about their club and projects.
