  • Brief Description:
Our club has a very active Youth program.  We sponsor Interact Clubs at Warren County High and Middle Schools, Randolph-Macon Academy and Front Royal Christian School.  We also raised funds for the Lord Fairfax Community College Rotaract Club to go on a dental mission trip to Jamaica.

In December we started our first EarlyAct Club at Hilda J. Barbour Elementary School. The club had 34 students attend and they spent their first meeting learning about Rotary, EarlyAct, and making 80 Christmas cards for residents of two local nursing homes.  They concluded the meeting by reciting The Four Way Test.  During their second meeting they heard from a local resident who recently returned from a mission trip to Uganda.

Our Interactors participate in the club’s Salvation Army bell ringing, “Doc” Smith Christmas basket project, the Christmas parade, spring gala and the annual Rise Against Hunger.  They also participate in the Special Love meal at Camp Fantastic; the 4-H camp for children with cancer.

Our club co-sponsored a middle school RYLA with the Rotary Club of Warren County for the public and private middle schools in our county.   We also sent a contingent of students to the the District’s RYLA, sponsored a Youth Exchange student to France (Cami Buracker) and hosted a student from Germany (Sarah Schulte-Buner).  Our club also hosts a True Colors event for the students, an Ethics Workshop, and Interview Workshop for our high school students.

We also recognize our local high school students with Student-Athlete Awards, and award Academic Scholarships with funds raised from the previous year’s golf tournament.  Each year we are updated on the accomplishments of past recipients and hear how their Rotary scholarship helped them achieve their goals.
We also actively participate in the county’s BackPack program through our “Happy Dollars” program at each meeting.  The county BackPack program sends home food for the weekend for at risk students.  Each year we also provide dictionaries to all Third Graders in Warren County.

Our club also welcomes members from all four of our Interact clubs to our meetings regularly to give updates on their activities.

The club also provides funds and sponsorship for the Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, midget football and recreational soccer.

  • Resulting Benefits:
Warren County students greatly benefit from the activities of our club.

Our scholarships have aided four students in their college financial aid.  The students plan to pursue academic credentials and careers in theater, public health, cyber security and the culinary arts.  Our scholarships are no longer limited to just academics but also to vocational schooling and trades/apprenticeships.

Our interview workshops prepare graduating seniors for future college and job interviews and the ethics workshop help students begin to realize life is not all black and white.

We are especially proud of the creation of our EarlyAct club at Hilda J. Barbour Elementary School.  By introducing these elementary school students to the concept of “Service Above Self” we hope that we are planting the seeds that will blossom into citizens that will continue to give back to the communities in which they will live.

We are teaching them the importance of community and giving back through our high school and middle school Interact clubs.  And by hosting a Youth Exchange student, our club has provided our high school students an opportunity to learn about a different culture.
