  • Brief Description:
The Rotary Club of Blacksburg is nominating our club member Barbara Newton. She continues to work in the following areas:
    • Creates a bulletin for the club each week and ensures delivery by email and on table top for lunch
    • Creates press releases for local media and ensures our website is current
    • Coordinates with another club member to create a column monthly in a local paper, the News Messenger
    • Performs the duties of District Newsletter Editor which include identifying and cultivating a member for the newly created Spotlight on a Member, and targeting a club for the also newly created Spotlight on a Club to be published in each monthly Newsletter. Also new is the section on The Road to Our Rotary District Conference.
    • Regularly posts Facebook entries to the club site, to the District site, and to Giles and Floyd club sites
    • Took on the task of photographer for the 2014 District Conference and coordinated all the photo opportunities and will continue to do so at the pleasure of the District Governor
    • Joined the Facebook presence of Rotary Global History Fellowship
    • Joined the Facebook presence of Rotarians on Social Networks Fellowship
  • Participation of Club Members:
In reaching out to members in the District by creating Spotlight on a Member and Spotlight on a Club, various members look forward to reading about themselves and others in our District Newsletter. The sharing of ideas and activities is inspirational to all.

By using the multiple sources of information, Barbara is able to present a consistent and well presented Newsletter for the entire District of almost 3,500 members. Electronic delivery allows her to perform this task at a low or no cost. District Newsletters are emailed out to every member in the district.
  • Resulting Benefits:
The results of tapping into new avenues of information like the various Facebook sites is giving a new life to our District Newsletter by suggesting new or additional methods for putting the newsletter together. It can be suggested that the new section, The Road to Our Rotary District Conference may causing early enrollment figures to be higher this year according to our District Governor.

The scope is to reach out and include more club members from around District 7570 in developing the content of our monthly Rotary District Newsletter and the District's Facebook page. The intent is to give more information about Rotary and about our District in hopes of training for future leaders and recruiting new people to Rotary.
