  • Brief Description:
The Area 1 District Clubs of Front Royal, Linden, Winchester, Frederick County, Winchester's Latest and Clarke County have established a wonderful working relationship to accomplish many projects throughout the year, some of which includes a hunger project, matching grant, Interact activities, and GSE coordination.
  • Participation of Club Members:
The Clubs of Area 1, no matter how big or small, are actively engaged with the other clubs in Area 1 to accomplish many undertakings for the area. The most ambitious project undertaken by Area 1 is the Rotarians Against Hunger project that has become an annual Area 1 project. The project is run in conjunction with the Stop Hunger Now organization. This year the event has grown to include a full day of packaging meals that will cover two shifts (the morning shift for Rotarians and their families and the afternoon shift for Interact and Rotaract). Area 1 has set a goal of packaging 50,000 meals. All five clubs participate in this event as well as all Interact clubs that our under the supervision of the Area 1 clubs. (I will address the rest of the projects under objectives.)
  • Resulting Benefits:
Thousands of lives are positively affected through the Rotarians Against Hunger Project each year. Last year we raised funds and packaged over 35,000 meals. This year our goal is to increase the funds raised and meals package to 50,000.

We also feel that we are able to assist the youth in our area to become productive and involved leaders. The members of our club all benefit from watching the overall growth of the young Interact members.

Every club in Area 1 benefits from our multi-club projects. We have developed camaraderie and we enjoy working with each other. We even spend time together as an Area at the District Conference by putting on an Area 1 hospitality suite, where members socialize and visit with each other.

In all, working together allows each member in each club to see the Object of Rotary, and the principals of Rotary put to use on a larger scale than would be possible if each club were to work alone.
