  • Describe the Project, its location and its objectives: The two Rotary Clubs of Greeneville propose to provide a computer lab for the Boys and Girls Club of Greeneville. The computer lab will allow the Boys and Girls Club to serve their mission to provide disadvantaged children with opportunities for the further, explore career and educational activities, free tutoring and homework help, and a plan to develop good study habits. While the Boys and Girls Club has facilties for children to remain at the club to participate in sports and other activities, the computer lab will allow the Club to also focus on academics with the children to help with their homework.

  • Describe how the project will benefit the community and/or improve the lives of the less fortunate: The mission of the Boys and Girls Club is to enable all young people, especially those who need them most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens. The Greeneville Boys and Girls Club provides a safe place for children to learn and grow while promoting an ongoing relationship with caring, adult professionals. The Boys and Girls Club will use the computer lab to provide youth with daily tutoring, computer training, homework assistance, and mentoring.
  • Expected Total Project Volunteer Hours: 200
  • Describe the Rotarian hands-on activities in the project (i.e. non-financial participation): Rotarians will help with the plan and design of the computer lab. Rotarians will help set up the computer lab and then provide initial tutoring to the children on how to use the computers. Once the children have an initial familiarity with computer usage, the volunteers of the Boys and Girls Club of Greeneville will assist in teaching the children to use the computer lab to further their education goals.
  • Describe the publicity plan to inform the general public that this is a Rotary sponsored project: The Greeneville Rotary Clubs anticipate the following media placements related to the Computer lab project. Each will come jointly from the two Greeneville Rotary Clubs and, where appropriate, will involve the Boys and Girls Club as well.

    • News release(s) regarding, covering, and reporting success of fund raisers for the project
    • News release(s) recruiting volunteers for the “lab training”
    • The Rotary Seal, the names of the two Rotary Clubs, Rotary District 7570 and other key donors listed on one side wall of the computer lab
    • News release(s) on the project completion
    • Speaking engagements on local radio and television programs to promote the project
