  • Brief Description:
Throughout the 2017-2018, the seven clubs in Area 5 collaborated on two events geared toward Polio Plus: Pints for Polio & the Women in Rotary Tea Party. The goal of both events was to build public awareness and raise money for polio eradication. A great time was had by all at both events spearheaded by LaShonda Delivuk & the Rotary Club of Lynchburg-Morning.
  • Participation of Club Members:
Pints for Polio (237 members in Area 5, 63 participated, 27%)
Women in Rotary Tea Party (74 women in Area 5, 36 women & 3 men participated, 53%)
  • Resulting Benefits:
Members of Area 5 had the opportunity to socialize at both events and get to know each other better, helping to reinforce the idea that Rotary goes beyond the club level. Over almost $6,000 was raised during both events and including donations from guests of Rotarians. The Pints for Polio event received media coverage on ABC-13 and the commercial was featured at the Lynchburg Hillcats Rotary Night game. The tea party resulted in club visits from prospective Rotarians who attended the event. Overall AG Gary Christie was very pleased to see the seven clubs working hand in hand to support the End Polio Now campaign and the events helped show the community that Rotary goes beyond checks, we can party with a purpose.

  • Additional Materail or Information #2:
The Women in Rotary Tea Party invitation was custom designed and mailed to each woman in Area 5 via BMS Direct in pink envelopes. BMS Direct is owned by a Rotarian in Lynchburg-Morning. The invitation printing and mailing was donated and all we had to pay for was stamps. We also created brochures for the event that were printed by another Rotarian in Lynchburg-Morning who works for Bison Printing. Those brochures were donated as well.

The goal of the brochure was to show prospective Rotarians where each club met so they could visit and decide where they wanted to get plugged in. For current Rotarians the brochure would help them attend other club meetings as a makeup with ease by putting all the necessary meeting information on one convenient document.
