  • The first month as the District Governor is in the books! The thing I enjoy the most is being able to visit and meet so many of you and listen about the projects, service, and love that you are sharing in each of your communities and around the world! This journey continues to be a very humbling experience. I want to share a couple of quick stories.

At our first visit, we stayed at a place called The Old Jail in Tazewell, Virginia, owned and operated by Rotarian Mike Hymes. My daughter asked if the building was haunted, (it is an actual old jail, refurbished for overnight guests) so, of course, I told her that it was. She slept with her mother that night while I slept alone, “...in the event a ghost showed up.” We all had a great time!

In Stuart, at the Stanburn Winery, I showed up really early and it was hotter than a firecracker. Area Governor Anna Lester told me to dress down for the weather – I was in a pair of shorts and a polo shirt within 10 minutes! The event was super, very comfortable and felt like going to a picnic back home.

In addition to these Area events, I have started visiting clubs. My family and I had an opportunity to go to a hometown picnic in New Market where Rotarians from New Market, Mount Jackson-Edinburg, Broadway-Timberville, and Woodstock attended a local baseball game.

I am creating videos of many of the stops and experiences that I have this year. I hope you will check them out on our District Facebook page. Thank you so much - what you do matters! I look forward to meeting and getting to fellowship with you as we show how “Rotary Connects the World!”
