  • Dear District 7570 Rotarians,

I hope this finds you safe and healthy as we continue to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic. These are challenging times, but if anyone can be creative, innovative, and flexible, it is a Rotarian!

August is MEMBERSHIP MONTH. This focus comes at an appropriate time during our Rotary Year, because we must admit that we are facing membership challenges. Our District membership numbers have declined, which was not unexpected during the pandemic, but we need to do all that we can to retain our current members as well as attract new members.

Now more than ever, Rotary and Rotarians are ESSENTIAL! We have found new ways to serve and make a difference in our communities that have been impacted by COVID-19. But as we take care of others, we must remember to take care of those near and dear to our hearts -- members of our own Rotary club. We must maintain contact with each and every member of our Club. During this time of physical distancing, there are still ways to maintain contact and engagement:
    • Phone your Rotary friends to let them know you care and miss them and to see if they have needs or concerns.
    • Do a drive-by visit and connect from the street or yard. Consider delivering a goodie-bag.
    • If your Club is meeting virtually, assist those who don’t have the access or the knowledge to join in. Zoom is not just videoconferencing; it can be accessed by a simple phone call. Provide support to club members in learning to utilize smart phones, tablets, and computers. Engage the assistance of tech-savvy family members.
    • If video conferencing is an option, plan a virtual social hour or dinner. Just seeing the faces of those you care about is uplifting.

Remember, Rotary is a Membership organization whose goal is Service. We provide Service to our members, our communities, and the world. “Rotary Opens Opportunities” now more than ever, and there are opportunities to recruit new members who want to serve. A great way to engage new members is to invite them to participate in our first every "Cooking Together" Virtual Foundation Celebration. For recruiting ideas and other membership concerns, contact those who are part of your dedicated District Support Team: Area Membership Advocates, District Membership Chair Leslie Blevins and her talented Committee, Area Governors, or me. Our sole purpose is to support and serve Rotarians and Clubs, so please let us know how we can help you.

Please continue to protect and take care of yourself and others. You are appreciated and cared about!

    Yours in Rotary Service,

    DG Nancy
