George Karnes reflects on World Understanding Month

February is “World Understanding Month.” Each of us have a unique journey in Rotary and through our journey we CONNECT with other Rotarians and project beneficiaries from around the world. Recently, District Governor Elect Tim Carter shared the following with us:

“This week, RI President-elect Mark Maloney announced his theme for 2019-20, Rotary CONNECTS the World. This theme asks Rotarians to strengthen the many ways that Rotary connects the world, building the connections that allow talented, thoughtful, and generous people to unite and take meaningful action through Rotary service.”

I am so excited for DGE Tim, District 7570 and the Rotary World for this upcoming theme. This theme ties directly to the Rotary Mission Statement, “Together, we see a world where people unite and take action to create lasting change - across the globe, in our communities, and in ourselves.”

In a world where people UNITE, they can take action to change the world, to feed hungry children, provide neonatal care for expectant mothers and to help young men escape the cycle of gang violence. “Connecting” the world is “understanding” the world. Lannette and I are looking forward to seeing you at The Homestead on March 15 through March 17 for District Conference. We will be inspired and connected!
