August is Membership Month

August is Membership Month

In Rotary, August is Membership Month. We start on membership early because what we do this month and next will determine the membership direction of our clubs in June 2019. Membership growth is not accidental. It takes dedication, perspiration and inspiration.

As club presidents learned at President Elect Training Seminar in April, good clubs lose about 10 percent of their members every year. So, if your club has 150 members, you need to add 15 members just to stay even. If you have a 40 member club, it will take adding four new members. One opportunity to add new members is having a Membership Event. Don’t be surprised when you are asked by your club president, “Who do you know" that should be a Rotarian? This is step one in conducting a Membership Event — asking members who they know.

We have asked every club in our District to have a Membership Event this year. We believe it is so important that we designated grant money for your club to use for the event. Membership starts with each of us. Invite a friend to your meeting, ask them to help on a project, or invite them to be a speaker.

Thank you for all that you do to “be the inspiration!”
