January is Vocational Service month

Happy New Year! January is Vocational Service month. Vocational Service, one of Rotary's Five Avenues of Service, calls on every Rotarian to work with integrity and contribute their expertise to the problems and needs of society.

In response to business and professional “problems and needs” precipitated by COVID, a new vocational resource is available that focuses on Rotarians helping Rotarians --Rotary Works. Rotary Works is an initiative provided for Rotarians and Rotaractors within Zones 33 and 34 experiencing career transition. This initiative is comprised of three distinct programs that provide education, networking, financial resources, and mentorship opportunities for personal and professional development. The first Rotary Works program, the Career Development Zoom webinar series, will begin January 13. For more information and/or to register for the upcoming webinars, go to www.rizones33-34.org/rotary-works/.

Vocational Service is described in the Object of Rotary as “high ethical standards in business” and “the application of the ideal of service in each Rotarian's personal, business, and community life.” I would like to honor two of my dear friends and fellow Rotarians from Area 4, who have served and cared for their customers and employees like family and who have always embodied the highest vocational and Rotary ideals. Many thanks to Nancy Sorrells (Staunton-Augusta Co.), an excellent writer and local journalist, for telling their story. Please read on the next page.

Wishing all my fellow Rotarians and their families health and happiness in the New Year ahead!

Yours in Rotary Service,

DG Nancy
